WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!!!

Ok people...I don't know what is wrong with me but I have been cooking & cleaning all weekend! I am so glad so many of you tried the chicken & dumplings and liked it...Tootsie e-mailed me and said even her kids loved it and that they should make an action figure doll after me...WOW! A Barbie doll in a frogie and fuzzy slippers!!! lol lol Do you know I made another pot of those last night with another chocolate cake...it's a good thing too, because the youngest Burly boy & his family will be here in a minute for a visit! lol man there is the doorbell now....ok it was just two of the grandsons...they came up to wait for the on coming family! lol I just finished making a big bowl of one of my easy and favorite tuna, pasta salads...

I have made this for years ...I love pasta salads and this one is so easy

1 12oz can Tuna in vegetable oil (drained)

2 cups elbow macaroni (cook until tender)

5 boiled eggs chopped

1/2 small jar of dill pickle relish

1 cup mayo & I add about a tablespoon yellow mustard

salt and pepper to taste

Mix all the ingredients and keep in the fridge..once it is chilled the flavors have mixed and it is so good with just a few saltine crackers...trust me if you like tuna you will love this...alright see this down below...

I love...love...love homemade Vegetable soup but I don't got all day people!...ok this makes a one pot wonder just like the Chicken & dumplings....this is the basic..you can add cut up cabbage or cooked ground beef to it but I love it just plain and I put it in individual containers and freeze it so I can have a bowl anytime I want it...which is alot lately for some reason! Here you go...and this will get real thick as it sets !

1 large can crushed tomatoes

1 large can petite diced tomatoes

1 bag mixed vegetables (16 oz like for the Chicken & dumplings)

1 & 1/2 cups elbow macaroni

put all this in a big pot and add 2 1/2 tomatoe cans full of water

I large Tablespoon (from the drawer, ) of salt...black pepper...about a stick of country crock margarine and just alittle vegetable oil...some dried parsley..onion flakes and you will get this...

Bring it to a boil...turn down the heat until it is a slow bubble and put the lid on sorta cocked to the side ( you should know this by now! lol) cook for about 25-30 minutes..make some corn bread and get ready to slap your mama! It is so good especially if you like a tomatoe base soup!

Oh all right....might as go whole hog here....get yourself a dark fudge cake mix ( this is Duncan Hines) Cook it like the box tells you..here's you a quick chocolate frosting I love because of the cocoa taste

1/2 cup soften margarine

1/2 cup cocoa

1 box powdered confectioners sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring

1/4 cup milk

mix it all together in a bowl with a wooden spoon until creamy..frost cake when it has cooled or bake cake in a sheet cake pan and poke holes in it while it is still warm and cover with the frosting and let the icing melt down in the cake...keep it covered in the fridge...you'll love it and for goodness sake don't be a tightwad...splurge and get some vanilla ice cream to go with it! lol

Hope you guys are have had a terrific weekend..like I said...I just keep cooking but at least I haven't gotten into making chicken & dressing and sweet potatoe casserole....although...lordy that sounds good right now...lol You guys take care and have a great week!

Are you trying to make me get as BIG as a house, PIcket? For crying out loud. Now I'm starved. And I thought your best recipe was Fig Newtons. I didn't get to do the Chicken and Dumplings this weekend because the boys were gone but you'd better believe it's happening soon! Hey, do you have a good recipe for shrimp and grits? I have a container of White Lily grits straight from Birmingham and don't know what to do with them. I need ideas! Thanks for the wealth of recipes. I won't have to think this week about "what's for dinner?" CE

The recipes sound delish...but the best part of these recipes (and any one) is the love that is stirred in...just another way of showing love for your family.

Home cooking is so good...I just finished off two home made biscuits (with butter and orange marmalade) while I reading some of the blogs I follow.

Have a great week...love, laugh and eat chocoloate.

Hi Dot... I have always believed that there's "something" in the Fall air that makes us want to cook 'n bake like crazy! My guys would LOVE the chocolate cake with the frosting ooooozing down into it... mmmmmm... for sure I'll be passing that lil trick along to my Husband! God bless...

I made the chicken and dumplin's AND Mexican cornbread for lunch today and it was delicious!!! My grandson's (who are picky) even ate it. I love homemade vegetable soup, but I hate the all day too. I'll have to try this recipe. I had to go to the 2nd store to find the right kind of pasta but was determined. Thanks for the recipes!!

I made the chicken and dumplings, it was soooooo good and easy to make. The only thing is it made so much we can't eat all of it. Can you freeze this? I hate to throw it away.

I am shocked because I had you pegged wrong. I would have thought you were a made from scratch-just like my mama made-don't cut any corners or you'll lose the flavor kind of gal!!

I'll have to try this as I've only made mine home made...cut up all the veggies no shortcuts...heck when I make Chicken noodle soup I make home made noodles...now who would have thunk that!! I don't look like a made from scratch kind of girl do I? But I'm thinking about some short cuts and they sound good. It takes all day to make the soup and it's gone in no time.LOL I need shortcuts to get me out of the kitchen. Thanks Dot!!

Mornin', Dot...We're getting hungry for a big ole pot of Veggie soup, too...may just make one this week sometime.

Dot, I am loving these recipes. You are on a cooking marathon right now. It is the change of weather girl. It makes us want to be in the kitchen nesting and getting ready for the cold weather. We are just a bunch of squirrels getting ready for the long winter. Smile. Or maybe we are storing fat like our bears so we can sleep more. I'm for sleeping more. Smile. My dh is busy copying all your great recipes. Maybe you could write a recipe book called 'Picket's Picks'

Love you girl...Jeanne

Justine said...

Oh geez, you've made me ravenous now and it's too early to be eating stuff like that! Yummy!!!!!!!!! Okay, so why have you been cooking and cleaning like a mad woman? Are you nesting? LOL! Maybe you're nesting FOR someone else? Any more babies on the way there???

Hi Dot! Your chicken and dumplings were such a hit! My family ate until we were miserable! lol! Kevin has ate under the best of the best southern cooks, and he went on and on, that this was the best thing he had ever put in his mouth!!! Josh's Grandma is a great cook, and every meal I ask him, "Is this as good as Grandma Carolyn's"...just joking with him. But secretly hoping he will say yes! LOL! Well, after this meal, I was bestowed this great honor!!! :) Even with the wrong noodles! LOL! Thanks so much for sharing the recipe! No wonder your mom and dad look so forward to you coming to visit with dinner! I'm sure they want to see you, too! LOL!

Can't wait to try some of these tasty sounding recipes! Keep them coming! :) hugs, Rhonda

Picket you are a hoot... I knew you would like that post, and of course I do have alot of his furniture, and we do sell alot of it to people who come to our house, but I can not compete with the store thats for sure!! Its weird though, cause we were the first ones to have "black" roughed up furniture, and the store still wanted "white" but now things have changed and everyone wants the black... mt favorite though is the mix of the old pine and the new black, like my fireplace and that little table you like in my front window, anyway your post today made me laugh because I have been "nesting" for a week now, I keep telling John I must be pregnant!!!!Have a good day, talk soon and thanks for coming by!xoxoxoxo

Hey, you're using up all my computer ink printing out your recipes!!! That's okay, I'm in such a rut cooking and I definitely need some new recipes! Can hardly wait to try these. Sunday dinner I've just been cooking turkey steaks since they're easy and fast. Our church doesn't start until 1:00 and it goes until 4:00. Larry goes to bed at 5:00 Sunday night so I have very little time to get dinner on the table. I usually leave just a tad early to start it. Don't ask me why I just told you all that, LOL! Since I typed it though it stays!! LOL!

Twin 2 just called me at work. She is at the grocery store. She said now look up Picket's veg. soup I need to know what kind of tomatoes! I think all the grocery stores will be busy today with all the blog friends making soup tonight. I told Fran make enough for my family 'cause that is what I want tonight for supper too!!! You should get another blog for all your receipes :o)

Looks so good, Dot!

I made veggie soup the other day. Instead of ground beef, I used Boca Burger. Had no idea you can buy crumbled Boca Burger. Tasted pretty darn good in the veggie soup.

I'm going to give all these great recipes a try!

Twice as Nice said...

Here's the low down...decided to make the soup. Check the pantry and don't have the right canned tomatoes. In my cleaning clothes, no make up and (shhhh don't tell anyone but no bra either). Thought- go to the Dollar Store they'll have the tomatoes and no one will see me. Wrong...now what? Walk out and remember Aldi's is next door. Hubby loves that store but I've been in it twice looking for something and walked out empty handed. Well, I'm now 3 for 3. No luck. Ended up at Krogers so flustered I had to call Twin at work because I couldn't remember what kind of tomatoes I was looking for!!! LOL Now I'm off to make soup and put on some make up and a bra...because with the luck I've had today some one is bound to stop by.

P.S. I painted my mantel black yesterday. I'll post it sometime.

Hi friend, glad to see you are celebrating the arrival of fall with some stick to your ribs cooking! We can hardly wait for that first really cool fall day, when we throw open the windows and cook up a pot of gumbo. And potato salad. And rice. SERVED ALL IN ONE BOWL!!!!! That potato salad is sooooo good sitting on that rice with that hot gumbo on top. We also like to bar b que in fall since the mosquitos aren't so bad and the weather is bearable. Of course it wouldn't be fall without some cornbread dressing and baked chicken. Tonight we had boudin balls, doesn't that sound delicious???? Ha. It's just a meatball made with pork and rice and seasonings, breaded with cornmeal and fried. Now that I've read this, I'm starting to figure out my weight problem!!!! "Talk" soonksarra!
