Six Quirkies...Awards & Throw In A Blackberry Cobbler!

Hey Guys...We got a new month started here...Yahoo! I have been given a couple of awards and tagged for the 6 Quirks thingie and I did alittle baking...so I thought they would all go together pretty good! lol First the awards...

Chris over at Chris's Corner gave out this beautiful Autumn Friends Award to all her blogger friends..yes I am her friend...what kind of question is that!? Chris is the sweetest thing and get this...she travels around in a travel trailer....the lucky dawg!!!! lol If you haven't met her yet go on over there and say hello...Thanks Chris!

This next little beauty comes from Sally over at Salmagundi.....I ask Sally if it was accepted in all stores but she never answered me back on that one! lol She is a real sweetie also..be sure and go over and visit her sometime..thanks so much Sally!

Now I have been tagged by Chris (the one having a great time seeing the world in her RV) and by Donna aka Squawmama over at Adventures With Tassie who you won't believe it but also travels around the world in her RV!!!! Oh My Word and they don't even send me a post card from all those glorious places they are seeing! They're so wrong for that! lol Anyway..I am suppose to tell you 6 Quirky things about me..gosh I don't know if I oughta open that can of worms...but here goes...

1 I cannot sleep on a mattress that does not have a soft clean mattress cover on it...I don't care if you have the most expensive sheets in the world on it...there better be something between that mattress and sheet and I don't mean bedbugs either!

2 I was a tomboy growing up..ok..who snickered!!!! It's true...I didn't have any brother's..daddy was a Burly man...loved to hunt & fish..you haven't faced your fears until you are 10 yrs old, coon hunting at night...so dark the devil himself wouldn't come out....all you got is a flashlight and you are in the woods so thick your hiney is knocking the bark off trees as you go by...the leader dog finds the trail...the race is on....you are tearing off thru the woods trying to keep up with dad and praying you don't drop off in some 10ft gully...knowing you can't stand to be in the dark..oh did I forget to mention my families idea of telling bedtime stories was trying to see who could tell the best ghost story! Need I say more!

3 When I was in my tomboy stage..I use to build go carts out of old wagon wheels and tricycle axles and some old boards and rope for steering...the neighborhood boys were even impressed at my skills!....they would seat 2 at a time and we'd all take turns flying down the old dirt hill on them....they'd hold up pretty good unless you crashed into the old tree at the foot of the hill or unless you had Becky Hosmer riding on back with you...she always wet her pants when she laughed so hard and none of the others would let her ride with them so she always rode with me! Need I say more!!

4 I cannot for the life of me drive a stick shift car....least wise and not keep it on the road and all the gears still in tact when I turn the motor off! Daddy try to teach me..honest he did...but he grabbed his heart more times than Fred Sanford and come to think of it I never saw daddy with dark hair anymore after that...At 16 Bill tried to teach me all about cars and he had just gotten a 1964 Ford Galaxy with white leather bucket seats...turquoise blue with a white vinyl top...ohhh she was a beauty...I was behind the wheel a full 3 minutes before I rounded a curve on a dirt road on 2 wheels and buried the front tires in a sand bank.....we don't talk about that much around here...but that kind old farmer did pull us out with his tractor!

5 I cannot put my dishes in an old stinky cabinet...I can move in an old home and see all it's potential and I can redo and tear down and paint and make a beautiful place out of it...but while that is going on I cannot have my dishes in the cabinets...can't explain it..I can clean the nastiest toilet and be fine with that...I can scrub a floor so that you can eat off it....but if the cabinets have that old musty smell....or lord forbid ROACHES...ohhhhh I can't...I'm sorry..I just can't!!!!

6 I want to live in the country and have a clothesline to hang my sheets on like my grandmothers did...and have baby doodies (baby chicks) for my grandkids to see and hold...now Bill being the super sweet man that he is says he will put me one in the back yard but it wouldn't be the same what with the neighbors and the Home Owners Assoc! lol

So there you have it..you ask for it! Now before we close for the day boys & girls...I want to share with you my favorite cobbler recipe....of course I am pretty sure 99 % of the population has it by now...it has been around forever...the one with the cup of this and the cup of that...you can use any fruit you like....my absolute favorite is peaches (large can sliced cling peaches) but we didn't have peaches today we had blackberry! Ok see this down here...that is my favorite little recipe box that is as old as I am nearly with my special old recipes in it and that is an old mixing bowl of mama's..don't you just love the color...you set it on anything and it doesn't move! Here we go!

EASY COBBLER

1 stick butter (I use 1/2 cup Country crock margarine)

1 cup sugar

1 cup self rising flour

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 can of fruit pie filling.....your favorite...(or large can of cling sliced peaches, juice and all)

ok preheat oven to 350....spray baking dish with Pam....melt butter in the micro right in the baking dish...then drop the fruit in big spoonfuls in the melted butter...no stirring....it'll look like this....
Now mix the sugar & flour together in your mixing bowl...slowly add the milk and whisk together...add vanilla...mix together...and pour slowly over the blackberry mix...do not stir...
Now put it in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes...go work on your blog for awhile and visit with us.....and when it is done you will have this....

Look at this golden hot bubbly thing!!! yahoo...now I will do as any good friend would do and taste it to make sure it is ok for you to eat...oh lordy...hold on....you done got me so excited I almost forgot the main ingredient....

There...now..it's done! lol lol Thanks guys ...I enjoyed the awards and tags...I freely give the opportunity for any of you guys to do this tag and to accept these awards....have a great week and keep an eye out cause next week I should have some glorious news to share with you!

Added note...the preceeding recipe has been tested (and tasted) and has proven to be safe and delicious for all bloggers! lol lol

Hi Picket,

Thanks for the visit, I always enjoy it when you drop by.

I've printed up many of your recipes and added them to my folder. I like to make something new when the kids come. I baked every Sunday before we moved here, and the kids keep telling me how they miss it now. But it's silly to do it now, I don't eat it and my husband says he can't eat sweets like he once did.

I have been working on Fall projects and also getting our summer furniture cleaned and put away for the winter.

Hope everything is going ok with you and yours. Stay well and God Bless.

I LOVED reading your Quirkies---being a Tomboy is a good thing and a great experience. I do not know many ladies who have coon hunted in pitch dark, built go-carts---then can turn around and be a "clean" queen when it comes to keeping your home--a terrific family organizer and a wonderful cook! A great mix of experiences--all of which have helped to create one of the neatest gals I have "met" in a very long time!

Your link to my blog has led to me meeting several of your nicest friends!! Thank you! Dana

Can't drive a stick?! I was driving a stick on a tractor almost before I could walk!! I learned to drive the trucks before I ever learned to drive a car!! Maybe I'm some burly/mama mix or something. Now that's sad. Okay now for the girlie things.....I don't have a cobbler recipe like this and it looks yummy! I think I'll do it with cherries! I do love your recipes and Helen's too! Just wish I liked to cook more, my husband's getting tooooooooo skinny!

Chris said...

First let me say thank you for saying such nice things about me. Next, I dearly love your header, living in cemtral Fl. we don't have the pleasure of changing seasons. Then your quirks sound like you had a well grounded upbringing. And, I have started a folder named Picket's Recipe, please give us more. At last, there are some women that just have it all, I think you're one of them.

Hugs to you,

I got so tickled over what you said. I feel the same way about a stinkin' cabinet! LOL! By the way...the cobbler looks delish...I make my cobblers the same way and it's so good and I love the way that the crust just rises to the top and gets golden brown. Hi Picket...Thanks for checking out the Flea posting! :-) Regarding Tussie Mussies...here's a little description I found online at Eras of Elegance website: "A tussie mussie is a round nosegay bouquet comprised of several varieties of flowers. As such, the tussie mussie conveyed different messages of romantic sentiment when given from a special admirer. They were usually wrapped in a lace doily and tied with a ribbon. Later, silver tussie mussie holders became popular, and Victorian brides often walked down the aisle carrying these elaborate and beautiful bouquets." Picket and Darlene...the little silver plate piece is upside down in the photo but you can turn it up right and the little nose gay or bouquet would fit down into the tussie mussie container. You can see lots more tussie mussies at this site: http://www.englishcreekgardens.com/tussie.htm :-)Susan

Happy Sunday morning everybody...It is a glorious day indeed...our very own Shelia has left word that all is well with her and her family...Praise the lord...I did some crying and shouting over that news! Hope all is well with all of you..for the 'Sue' that ask about packing cookies for a yard sale..gosh girl I don't really have expert advice on that one...but here is what I do at Christmas for my bunch...My kids love those peanut butter cookies I make from townhouse crackers with peanut butter in between and then dipped in the melted white chocolate..so I always make up huge batches a few days before Christmas and I just use those decorative tins ,,you know from dollar store or Wal-mart that you can find at Christmas time and i line it with 2-3 layers of tissue paper leave it hanging over the edges and when you fill the tin fold the tissue paper over the top of the cookies and just put the lid on and they stay fresh for a long time...maybe someone else has the best idea..that's all I know sweetie!

Ok guys...4:30 in the morning I'll be sitting in a hospital waiting room...and not waiting on surgery either!!! I'll be waiting on a "special delivery"! lol I can't wait to tell you about her...uh it..I meant it! lol lol

Picket,
Once again, you had me in stitches reading your blog. Oh yeah, Tomboy's ~ growing up with 4 brothers, I thought, I was just as much a boy as they were; when it came to climbing tree's, wading through swamps to catch tadpoles in Mom's canning jars, green crabapple fights, playing hide-and-go-seek in the cemetary (so I could jump out from behind things) and scare the living daylights out of my brother, who is just 11 months older than myself. He scares so easily! We built go carts out of those empty wooden spools the power companies would leave behind and sent Bobby Harsh home crying many times when the thing rolled down the hill and into the back side of our barn. LOL
The bad part was that this kid was our landlords son... hehe
He was what was known as a "sissy" boy.
Love your blog, and Mmmm, your cobbler has my mouth watering, just the thought of hot cobbler, and 2 big scoops of Philly Vanilly ice cream melting over the top.
See ya back at the ranch.

Heather said...

I love your quirkies! I was a tomboy too when I was younger...actually I still kinda am!! I love to work on cars and use power tools, hunt and fish. I was the talk of the town a few years back when I got my first 10 point buck!!! Although I do think they need to make camo in more colors besides green and brown!! LOL!!
Oh Picket this cobbler looks so good I am going to have to try it for sure! What a perfect dessert especially on these cooler days. Yummy!! And I am really glad you tested it for us first....makes me feel much safer eating it!!
