Morning guys...ok it's the weekend and we gotta get things going so our Thanksgiving holiday will not be stressful...with large families especially you gotta time things just right and make it as easy on the cook as possible...now I can't help you with your family problems...( well actually I could start another blog and tell you about some of our family crisis we have had down thru the years..sure make you feel better about yours! lol lol) I ain't even got time to handle this blog! lol
Today boys & girls we start our little mini series of 'fix it & freeze it dishes' (did I just sound like Julia Childs!) This is our Baked Beans recipe (somebody get the smelling salts for Sue & Justine..they saw the BBQ sauce and thought I was gonna talk about BBQ spaghetti again! You'll find that recipe here ) Oh and I want to thank Sherry over at Edie Marie's Attic for giving me the best instructions ever to do that click here and find something on another post thingy!!! I LOVE THIS GIRL!!!!! THANK YOU SHERRY!!!!

Now I use the large 3 lb can & a regular 20 something ounce can for this size (threw the cans in the garbage..sorry)

Chop the onion and bell pepper and put them in the skillet with the ground beef and let them saute while you brown the meat...then drain.

Open your baked beans and drain alittle...then mix the baked beans & the meat mixture together in a HUGE bowl.....then you will add your brown sugar ...ketchup & BBQ sauce...mix well.

I put mine in those aluminum pans...one of those 13x9x2..thingy..I spray the pan with Pam or Bakers Joy....just let it cool a few minutes and cover with heavy duty Aluminum and put it in the freezer... I SET IT OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE THANKSGIVING AND IT WILL BE THAWED JUST RIGHT BY MORNING...I COOK IT & MY SWEET POTATOE CASSEROLE IN THE OVEN AT THE SAME TIME SO THEY WILL HAVE TIME TO REALLY THICKEN AND SET FLAVORS WHILE I AM COOKING MY DRESSING!
Baked Beans
2 lbs ground beef
1 large can & 1 regular can of Bushes original Baked beans
1 onion
1 green bell pepper
1 cup of Ketchup
1 cup KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce
1 1/2 cups light brown sugar
chop the onion & bell pepper...cook it with the ground beef until beef is browned...drain
drain the baked beans...add to the meat mixture in a large bowl...then add remaining ingredients
pour into a large baking pan...lt cool a little...then cover with aluminum foil and freeze.
just take it out the night before you want to cook it and let it thaw on the counter....then bake in a 375 degree oven for about 1 hour until hot and bubbling...I cook mine with the aluminum foil off.
I REALIZE MOST OF YOU HAVE SMALLER FAMILIES SO JUST USE 1 LB GROUND BEEF AND THE LARGEST CAN OF BEANS AND HALF OF THE OTHER INGREDIENTS...ADD MORE OR LESS BROWN SUGAR TO YOUR LIKING.
this is also great if you have the time to cook & use shredded pork instead of ground beef....gotta go for now...I just took the cornbread out of the oven for the dressing..look for that recipe coming soon to a blog near you! Have a great day you guys!

31 lil sweet taters came by...:
Mmmm! These looks so good!
My family loves baked beans. I have never tried putting BBQ sauce and peppers in mine, but I'm willing to try that!
Can't wait for Thanksgiving!!
Janene
DOT!!! you forgot the most important part of the instructions.....FIX IT....FREEZE IT.....MAIL IT TO NIKKI CUZ HER FAMILY IS STARVING AND SHE DOESN'T COOK BECAUSE SHE IS A PITIFUL SLUG! Sheesh woman...what kind of a chef are you?
Yummy. We don't put ground beef in our baked beans usually. Could you serve this as a main dish...with a little cornbread? Sounds so good.
Picket those look yummy! I will have to remember this recipe! Funny how different families have different things for Thanksgiving, my hubby's family usually has about 5 different cheese casseroles. Can't poop for a week after! Have a good weekend!
Laura :)
Oh, these sound so good. We call these cowboy beans.
You are getting me started on my fixin and freezin. Thank you for sharing.
Mmm... these do look nummy. I never knew you could freeze baked beans. We are looking forward to a feast!
Hey Dot!
You're on a roll! I guess I'd better get busy with my list! Thanks for the yummy recipe, can't wait to try it!
Hugs,
Carol
Dot you are such a cutie! Up here in the NorthEast I don't do baked beans for Thanksgiving, it must be a southern thing. I know alot of southerners who live up here now do beans and even mac and cheese, deviled eggs, and things like that, I consider that summer cookout food. So I just do turkey, stuffing, mashed and sweet potatoes and gravy, veggies, rolls, cranberry sauce, see, just the traditional. Oh and Dot, I have never added ground beef to my beans, but that sounds really good, so I'll make that sometime soon! AND... I have never heard of hardboiled eggs put in gravy either, wow, you southern cooks are so different aren't ya! But I still love ya sweetie! BTW, I have nothing to blog about, ya know me and my boring life! LOL!
So you have baked beans for Thanksgiving? Along with the turkey and the ham? lol Don't forget the PB & J! lol
Mmmmm! That looks so good! And yes you are a busy bee! Putting me to shame....Anyway, come on by when you decide to stop your cooking & freezing frenzy and see my babies! :)
Looks yummy! Thanks for sharing I guess I need to call my sil and find out what shes going to bring so I know what to fix. Blessings, Karen
Those look yummy! We also call that "cowboy beans". It's a must have when we camp, but haven't had them for Thanksgiving! I bet your dinners ROCK!

Diane
Dot you remember me, the friend who said I apologize to my family when I place the meals on the table!! Yea you remember!! LOL, Dot I could never post a recipe, but I do have plans to go to an awesome prim shop next weekend, I hope the owner lets me take pictures! Happy cookin sweetie! BTW, I always love when you write a "book" for me!! xoxoxo
Here you go again Dot!!! My DH is sitting here beside me saying this sounds like something he'd really like for T'giving...so, I'm sending him to your house to join the burly boys! Thanks for feeding my ol' manny-burly boy! ;-) Bo
Picket....your recipes always make me wonder how you all are not super fat around that part of the world.
You also have some dishes that seem very different to me. Baked Beans are a picknic or summer camping dish for us here....I have never seen them or tasted them....but they do look good....
I have had beans and hot dogs in my lifetime....ahhh the childhood memoried you just conjured up....love you girl...please keep me in your prayers as I keep you in mine
Hey girl
It sounds just like the baked beans that I make. My husband absolutely adores them... Sometimes i add about a tablespoon (or maybe a little less) of yellow mustard to mine... It's a great combonation with the brown sugar. I'm gonna try that gravy recipe you posted earlier in the week. It looked delectable smothered over those biscuits.
lady...you had better not have meant that you are super fat...you are beautiful! I have been running around blog land....collecting recipes for things I have never even heard of....and was thinking that maybe....just maybe I would have me another thanksgiving! lol
(I need an excuse to make some of these things....)
Also Picket....I will be making a little trip to the store for hot dogs and beans tonight....lol....the things you have gotten me to do...I love you girl
here....take this hug..............got it? thanks!
This sounds good, I'm going to add it to my collection. Can't have it for Thanksgiving, cause you know, Tradition. LOL
Love Ya,
Chris
I am so excited about your recipes that I can fix & freeze! I already hate to use my kitchen other than baking dolls, making coffee grunge stain, or just drying my grunged goods! So, anything I can make ahead of time is my kinda holiday cooking!
Hi Dot!
Mmmm..baked beans! We love all kinds of beans. Your recipe is almost like a chili con carne because of the meat :-)
I acn't believe Thanksgiving is just around the corner!
Hugs, Pat
Dot I liked to have never got this recipe copied because of that music you got playin !!
I kept on wanting to wiggle , LOL .
I DID NOT KNOW you could freeze baked beans!!! If I NEVER learn another danged thing from my blogging buddies--this little tip will be enough! We don't fix b.beans for TGiving (but we don't feed a crowd like you do either!),but I'm always the Bringer of the Beans at our July 4th gatherings and this would be a great idea!!! I actually do use the same brand you just shared---and I add BQ sausce, B. Sugar, Molassess, sauteed onions that have been cooked in bacon grease! and the crumbles from about four slices of cooked bacon. Oh and I throw in a dash of Liquid Smoke for good measure! I don't add hamburger, but I have eaten that dish with hamburger in it (we call that Cowboy Beans) I cook em low and slow and they are good. NOW I know to fix up the mix a few days before and freeze it!
I was just bringing the rest of my Wheat Dishes up from the basement where I store them---gonna set them out on my buffet and enjoy them until I use them on TGiving!
Have a great rest of the weekend! Dana
Yummo, Picket! I like that freeze and fix it stuff. Theses look very good!!
Now I need to learn how to do the 'click it here' thing. I see it all over blogland and I've tried with all my smartness to do it and then folks will say - your link doesn't work.
Be a sweetie and have a wonderful Sunday.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Dot, I do baked beans very similar to these during the summer. I usually don't add hamburger during the winter. LOL If I ever have the need to freeze them I'll remember this!! Hugs, Terrie
I think I will make this and bring it to my son's Football Party next weekend. It looks delicious and it could definitely feed a bunch of hungry 12 & 13 year old boys!
Thanks for the recipe!
Those looks soooo good! You have already saved me time in the kitchen for the holidays, THANK YOU!
Hope your weekend is going great :)
Stephanie
Oh Dot, You made me ROFLOL!
No it is not the bleach in your pretty highlights or I would have been in a looney bin from the thirty years I bleached my hair + the years I worked in the salon as a stylist. lol
Bless your heart. I left a message from my private blog and then when you cam e to comment, it let you in:)! I am so busy with the weddings, I copied the 'almost' same blog from our private family blog. My nieces shower is this next Saturday and then I am cooking the big T dinner for 26, and doing our son's big shower for over 100 the same weekend! I AM THE ONE LOSING IT! I promise you I won't confuse you again with showing Jamie with rollers in her hair on yet another blog:) But I did enjoy your comment!
I come over to see you and some other good friends for stress release! Blog friends are wonderful. And your beans still look great!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Picket That sounds yummy I'll have to try it!Hugs Jen
Hi Dot!
You get an A+ on your assignment LOL! I'm glad the instructions worked and I didn't leave anything vital out!!
Your recipes look awesome! I didn't realize you could freeze baked beans, you just opened up a whole new chapter of cooking for me girl!!
Woo Hoo!! What a big help to make & freeze. I'm working a part-time retail job and what greater way to handle some of that is to freeze dishes. Although Wes is an incredible cook and rules the kitchen these days! I am so thankful!!
I really enjoy the hunting photos of your guys. It brings back wonderful memories of my dad hunting in the fall and bringing back rabbit & pheasant. It really helped feed our family back then. He was the sweetest man and a warm wonderful Daddy!(brings tears to my eyes)
Big hugs, Sherry
