awarded me with these two beautiful awards a few days back....this first one wants me to tell you some honest things about myself...gosh Chris do think I make up all this stuff! lol lol Chris is a real sweetheart..she just posted some pics of her outdoor Christmas decorations...they are gorgeous..go by and take a peek! Oh and did you know Chris has so many decorations that she decorated her neighbor's outdoors on both sides of her!!!! Oh my word...I need to move Chris next door to me (well you don't think I'm moving off and leaving my Burlys do you!)
When you receive the prize, you must write a post showing it, together with the name of who has given it to you, and link them back. Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in their content or design. Show their names and links and leave them a comment informing them that they were prized with 'Honest Weblog'. List at least ten honest things about yourself. Then, pass it on! Here goes...1. I cannot stand the new modern cartoons these days with robots and talking monster figures! Give me the old Disney & Warner Bros cartoons anyday...(sorry grandbabies..but Maw Maw has to tell the truth here!)
2. I cry when I watch sad movies..no matter how many times I have seen it...like in Sommersby when they are about to hang Richard Gere & he had told Jodie Foster he'd be alright if she would just be there for him to look into her eyes and she said she couldn't bear it..but at the last minute just before they pull the lever she is running down the street screaming and pressing thru the crowd Yelling 'I'm Here...I'm Here'...and just at the last minute he sees her..ohhhh good grief where is my hankie!
3. I have never drank a drop of alcohol in my life...nope..doesn't make me any better than any body else...I just knew as a young girl...I never wanted any part of that in my life...I had too many alcoholic uncles & I saw early on what it did to them and their families.
4. I love & adore my family..thru good times & bad...I consider them to be my greatest treasures from God and I only pray that when I leave this world they truly will know how much they have meant to me.
5. I never was suppose to have been born according to the doctor...mama had been in labor over 30 hours and her life was fleeting fast and the doctors told her I was already dead & they strapped my mama to a table with no form of anesthesia and cut her open and I was already black...but God had plans for me....I took my first breath!
6. I believe in being who you are 24 hours a day..the same in public as you are behind closed doors...I have no confidence in a false person.
7. Speaking of confidence..I learned a long time ago to never put your whole confidence in any one to the point where you worship them...if they fall you will fall with them....I have seen many a good Christian be so caught up in the preacher that when that preacher fell they just fell with him...that is not what God intends for us to do....love and honor all but keep your confidence in God at all times..not a man.
8. I never..ever tell anyone what I weigh..seriously not even Bill !!!! My doctor knows there will be a hitman put out on him if he ever tells!
9. I have spoke to crowds of hundreds and it never bothered me but there are times I can just go to Wal-mart and have a panic attack...seriously..I have to talk to myself to get out of the car and go in...I hate it when that happens.
10. When I was in the third grade...my teacher Mrs. Burchfield was the most beautiful teacher I had ever seen...no prune face..granny woman there...she was young and looked like June Cleaver (without the apron)...every hair in place and her beautiful pearls and high heels..she looked like a model.... yet she had a way that just made you want to learn more & more...From then on I wanted to grow up and be a school teacher...but then I met Bill...that idea went out the window!
Now lookie here at this pretty little thing...ain't Chris just the sweetest thing for thinking of me!
The rules for this award are simple:1. Put the logo on your blog 2. Add a link to the person who awarded you 3. Nominate 10 other blogs 4. Add links to those blogs on yours 5. Thanks sweet Chris for these great awards..I hope I did you proud girl!
Ok I mentioned dessert in the title....I can't have you leaving here with a 'bad' taste in your mouth after reading all that 'honest' stuff about me! lol Let's have some Peach Cobbler!

This is my very favorite cobbler & it is the same recipe as the Blackberry Cobbler on my side bar only for this I don't use peach pie filling I use the big can of sliced peaches and you use all the juice in it....oh it is fabulous!!! I don't even add ice cream to this one it is so good by itself..

Spray you baking dish with Pam or Baker's Joy...melt a stick of the butter/margarine in the dish in the mircowave and then just gently pour the whole can of the sliced peaches in the dish..no stirring...

in a bowl mix 1 cup of self rising flour & 1 cup sugar..slowly add 1 cup milk and keep mixing with a wisk until smooth and blended..add 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring..now slowly pour this mimxture all over your peach mixture..no stirring....now bake it in a preheated 350 degree between 35-45 minutes until good and golden....

I have had prettier ones than this....I got busy & like to have forgot it! lol lol Hey..I'm just keeping it honest here! lol
Oh my word....I promise you if you love peaches you will love this cobbler! Peach Cobbler
1 stick butter (I use 1/2 cup Country Crock maragine)1 cup sugar
1 cup self rising flour
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1 large can sliced peaches
preheat oven to 350....spray your baking dish with Pam/Baker's Joy...melt butter in your baking dish in the mircowave...slowly add the can of peaches..juice & all...no stirring
mix the sugar and flour together in a bowl and slowly add the milk...whisk until smooth & creamy...add the vanilla flavoring...slowly pour the milk mixture all over the peach mixture....no stirring
Bake for about 45 minutes, until golden brown.

Hi honey!! Dot I love all your honesty, but golly gee girl, what your poor Mama had to go thru to get you born, wow, God sure did have a plan for you and you are living it every day to the fullest! I also won't tell anyone my weight, oh wait I do tell my friend Carol and thats only because she weighs more than me, and when I was going to exercize classes we got weighed there too, but I was losing so I wasn't embarrassed! LOL! Your cobbler looks good, Butch loves peaches and takes them to work every day so I'll make this for him. Dot, I loved my 4th grade teacher, her name was Miss Inverso, she had hair like Marlo Thomas on That Girl. I drew a picture of her and gave it to her once, I was in awe of her. She taught us Spanish and I can say numbers 1 thru 7 in Spanish, yup, I forgot all the rest though lol!!
Enjoy your day sweetie! TTYL! xoxoxo
Dot, I love you even more after reading those thinga about you. You continue to endear yourself to me with each post. I wish I knew you in person because I know how wonderful you are from your words.
Like you, I can talk a blue streak, but sometimes I get panicky, too. It doesn't happen a lot, but there are times I have to talk myself into doing certain things with God's help. Of course, I can do all things through Christ who gives me the strength to do it! I rely on that scripture more than you can imagine. :-)
I lost a ton of weight a few years ago (40 pounds), and then I went through some bad stress this summer and gained it ALL back. So, I'm back at square one. LOL! And I'm not about to tell anyone what I weigh now... although I did tell my best weight loss friend. Of course, she tells me, too! ;-)
Let's just say I've gotten kinda fluffy!
XO,
Sheila
Your poor mother! I'll bet you HAD to be a good little girl after hearing how much you put her through. Thanks for the honesty, Dot, but truly, I never expected anything else from you.
YAHOO!! To your Mama for going through all that pain to have you Picket..God indeed had a plan for you to be here to uplift others with all your kindness girl!! Thank you Picket's Mama...
I never wanted to me a teacher really did't care for school at all unless it was a school I wanted to go to like flying...Don't belive in drinking also seen what it did to my family members...but I have had my beers girl...but haven't even done that in a couple of years now. now Dot I'll tell any one but weight because I can't gain weigth and try all the time to keep it on..Len tells me all the time he can't see me if I turn sideway..great way of hiding from him haha!! another great recipes girl!! I love all these easy ones you show us..I still say that soup ones would fed the army girl!! Hope you have a safe and blessed Sunday...love ya sis...hugs and smiles Gloria

I just put out my billboard just so you know. Diane wants me to include her too.
Considering how many pinkies were on that list she was very lucky.

It is always great to learn a few more things about you. The story about your birth is heart-wrenching. God had His hand on you that day, for sure!!! Take care, Sally
Hi Dot,
I love your honest and heart felt answers!
You and I are alike on number 8....I had to tell a nurse a few weeks ago how much I weighed in front of my husband. I didn't want to but she was standing there and wouldn't go on. Sometimes he doesn't hear well...maybe that was one of those times. LOL
Congratulations on your awards!
The cobbler looks great...I've got to cut back though!
Diane
Donna Hey Dot... What a totally honest and beautiful post... we have a lot in common except the drinking... but that's ok I do enough for both of us...LOLI had a 6th grade teacher who made a huge difference in my life... I can say I am glad you are that far away...or I WOULD weigh 5000 pounds!
You truly are a miracle! Can you imagine what your poor Mother must have gone through? I am a crybaby at sad movies and even sad TV commercials. And the amount I weigh will never cross my lips....and when I make your cobbler that number will increase....Congrats on your awards - Robyn
Oh Sue, you bake just like my mom did...I remember the peach cobbler and every Wednesday was the day you maked bread and goodies:)

Hi, I just came over from Intouchwith and found your site. I love it. I use the same cobbler recipe, but I put the fruit in last. I make lots of blackberry cobblers and have the recipes on my site. The movie Somersby has me in tears everytime, too. It's one of my favorite movies. Great post, I'll be back
