The Men In My Life...

These are the men in my life...these are the 'Burly Boys' with their dad...it is one of my favorite pics of them together. At any given time you will see them covered in mud and camos with duck calls around their necks and boats behind their trucks.....

Sweet Bill is not a Burly Man....he has never cared for hunting and fishing...I guess it was me that passed on my 'Tom Boyish' ways seeings as how mama & daddy only had us two girls and Daddy was definitely a 'Burly"..I mean come on now...I did sleep with our Blue Tick Prize hunting dog from the time she was a baby till she got so big she hung off both sides of the bed and daddy said she had to go outside with the other dogs....oh sorry.. did that ruin my Southern Lady image!

These Burlys will show up at any given holiday and event in camos...they will have you in stitches with their hilarious stories...they have a bond between them that I have never seen between brothers...they are true huntsmen & could live in the woods 24 hours a day....

Then there is the other side...the one they took after their daddy...they are loyal and men of honor...they love their families and will protect and provide for them to the death....they love and honor their two sisters with all their heart and will drop everything & give everything to help each other...all my life I hoped and prayed that if I ever was blessed with children that I would somehow.. someway instill in them the importance of love for God and for family....But God as always has given me abundantly above anything that I have ever ask or imagined... I can't help but cry when I stand and see all these 'treasures' around me....

They each have went thru their own trials and troubles going from teenagers to men....they have made a few wrong turns in this road of life and have paid the price for it....they have been the cause of many a sleepless night for me as I lay before God in prayer asking His love and mercy and protection on them....I have seen them face obstacles that would have destroyed other men....when they were at their lowest...I have wrapped my arms around them and whispered to them 'there is greatness in you son'.

If you think satan won't do anything to destroy a family ...you are living in a fairy tale....a close family that loves and lives for God is one of the strongest forces in this life....never...ever give up on your children....they are not your enemy...yes my family has face many obstacles that would have destroyed most families....but we refused to give up...we did all we knew to do then we stood...and watched God do the rest...

I live in this real world just like everyone else...but I know in whom I believe and I know who answers my prayers...I am not ashamed to say I am a child of God & I will bow my head anywhere.. anytime and pray with my brethen...you see had it not been for answered prayers...I dare say the closest I could get to these 'treasures' today would be to stand at their grave side...you have never walked in my shoes and you may not ever meet me....but I pray that each one that reads this will receive a double portion of what I have received in this life...

These are the men in my life...and yes once in a 'blue moon' they shed the camos & slap on some smell good....don't they clean up nice!!!!!!

Sweet Picket, I see we really do have alot in common, I too have 3 boys and everything you wrote could have been written by me. I too thank God for my Blessing and his Grace. For I am so proud of what my boys have become, how, loving, honorable and good, they all 3 over came trails and turmoil.
I too lost many nights of sleep, praying for God to protect them and keep them safe and to lead them back to the right path..
You sure do have a good looking crew. And boy do they clean up nicely.

Dot, this is the most eloquent testimony of love I have ever read. It is so obvious how much you love your family, and that emotion jumps straight off the page and into other people's hearts. This not only made me cry, but it made me so thankful that I am blessed beyond measure to know you. You are one very special lady!

Have you any idea how the Lord uses your words to minister to other people? If you don't, let me assure you he does, dear friend, and even though I don't have burlys in my life, I am just overwhelmed with joy that you do and that you share them with us! There may be people with more money than you, but you, Mrs. Picket, Mrs. Mother to the Burly Boys and Wife to Sweet Bill and Sister to Nanna and Mother to the Picket Girls and Grandmother and Friend Extraordinaire, YOU are one of the wealthiest people I know... wealthy in love and in the knowledge of what is most important in this life!

Dot, I look forward to one day standing beside you (or even behind you) in Heaven and celebrating the joy of being in the Savior's presence face to face. But even now, I feel the absolute devotion you have to Him, and I celebrate that with you!

You go, girl! You keep on with what you do because you do it so well! And know, there's one crazy little ole magpie cheering you all the way from Florida and cheering you LOUDLY!

Love you...

Sheila :-)

This is such a powerful testimony! While you don't go into specifics, its clear that it hasn't always been an easy road, but a Mama's prayers and steadfastness has brought them to a very good place in their life, and even to a miracle with that little grandbaby to the burly boy and his wife who thought they wouldn't have a child!

I too have had to fear that I would be burying my daughter on many an occasion. Someday I'll do a post on it, but it will be a rough one to share. I know what it's like, I truly do! She makes my sons feel so easy to raise. Thank you for sharing this! You children to be very proud of.

Dearest Picket:
Don't we have a lot to be thankful for !!! I don't have any burley boys but God has graced my husband and me with two of the sweetest, most lovable and precious daughters.. We ,too have had many hard things to endure and only with many prayers and Gods
grace have we come through them..My husband is deceased three years on June 1, and he was a heart patient for over 30 years. went through two valve replacements and God brought him through and was able to live a productive life after that. We have seen our share of tears with one daughter going through a divorce that few people could fathom but as always, God brought her through a stronger Christian than before.. so you see... all life is not a bed of roses but then God didn't promise us that all would be easy.. but just to trust Him and rely on his promises..
And that is what my family had done for many years.. He is faithful..
Blessings,
Maurine

Beautiful testimony. I agree 100% with you. I too have 3 men in my life. God has blessed and kept them. There were many nights I lay before the Lord praying His protection and sweet mercies. God delivers. Praise His name.

What a joy to read the testimony of someone not afraid to acknowledge where her treasures come from!
What a blessing to read the words of a mother who (obviously)never gave up on her children.
My oldest son, who as a teenager has set me in valleys only the good Lord could lift me from, became a daddy last week! He's grown into one of those good men (like your sons) ~ not by anything that I've done, but only by His grace.
Such a blessing to read about someone who loves her family and her God and loves to shout it to the world.
I've enjoyed my visits here over the past month or so ~ I'll be back.
Thanks so much for sharing and ministering to those who visit you.

Hi Dot...there is nothing I could say that would come close to what Sheila (Quintessential Magpie) has already said...so I'll just say "Amen" to what she has written.
If anybody looked up the word mother in a dictionary, your picture should be there! ;-) Bo

Hi Picket, today I'll say a special prayer for you and your guys! We ARE blessed!!!! And can anyone on this earth love you like your Momma???

Good morning my friend, Dot.
Wow, I had to get the kleenex out on that one. You certainly have a great looking family. I totally understand those "trials". Raising teenage boys is not easy. I have one "raised" up, nearly. And the youngest is approaching those teenage years. Thankfully, I have a faith that was instilled in me by my parents, and my husband is quite the rock to our family. Jesus has carried me through so much heartbreak and my husband was right there holding my hand.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow!!!

Ah - thank you darlin'! What a wonderful message -- I've just returned from a long trip to see our son and his family - oh how I wish they were closer by -- but thankful that they're only a day away. They're going through some pregnancy trials -- it looks as though their second daughter may have downs syndrome. We know that she'll be a blessing to our family and we're just going to love her little booties off!
You do have a beautiful family! What blessings.

You and your husband have made those men what they are today! You are great parents!

Dot, I'm the mom of two teenage boys. They have been such good kids and I never overlook that blessing. We are facing a trial right now with our college freshman is doesn't have a clue what he's doing and isn't making good grades. It's not for lack of trying...he's very shy and seems to be overwhelmed by it all. We keep praying and trying to find the ways to make it all work for him. It may mean big changes for him but we know everything will work out.

Thank you for your prayers and reminders. You are the best!

Burly and good lookin'. A great combination of you and Bill!
My three children are very close and that is what warms my heart the most. Even though there is 10 years between my daughter and my next which is my son. Then came the last daughter 14 months after that. I have to give my oldest daughter credit for the closeness because she always wanted siblings (it just took a while!) and she has loved them like a second mom.
I thank the Lord I haven't had any problems with my children and I'm sure it's because of his goodness. They are my greatest accomplishment.
I'm sure your family is a reflection of the love between you and Bill. Now that is a fairy tale!!

This is what I love about you Dot, your faith and your strength and courage to show it at all times! I too stand in wonder at the blessings God has bestowed upon our family. We've had some monumentally hard times but we are a united front who love and care about each other. Nicholas used to threaten to kill Travis on a daily basis and there were times we were afraid it wasn't an idle threat. Now they are the best of friends and dearly love each other and will defend each other no matter what! I know this change was the answer to my prayers and the love God had for Nicholas. He is definitely a different man today than when he was in his teens. You're right, we NEVER EVER give up on our kids. Satan is so real. I believe he is our elder brother in the premortal life and that he knows us well. He knows our weaknesses and will hit us with temptation when we are the most vulnerable. Have you ever been tempted with something that you never thought would tempt you? I have and he knew the exact time and place to hit me with a temptation so strong I wasn't sure I could resist. You my friend have given me strength this day! Have a wonderful sunshiney day!!

Hey Dot! Another great post! Yes, satan will do anything to rip apart what God has held together! But Praise the Lord, when God is on our side and we allow Him to handle things, the devil never has a chance!
I can see how the Lord uses you to reach so many others through your blog. It is a wonderful thing. I feel blessed everytime I stop by and read your lovely posts. Something you say or talk about always seems to touch my heart like it was written just for my benefit. You are a sweet soul, so please keep on doing what you're doing.
Have a great week!

Hi Sweet Pea! You are truly blessed, and have a wonderful family. I have three girls, and it is indeed a challenge sometimes.
All we can do is teach them the best we know how, and with Gods help hope it all works out.

Dot, if you see this, I have a HUGE favor to ask! I need someone who is a major prayer warrior to intercede for the mother of one of my best friends. I have the info on the blog, but in a nutshell, she's in the ER right now and is having difficulty breathing. She was just x-rayed last week for pneumonia and checked clear... but she is really struggling now so they took her by ambulance to the ER. She's frail and old, but she really WANTS to live. Her family (including me) want her to live, too, and want prayers for her. She's very cognizant and told her daughter that she wants to live several more years at least! She is the cutest little lady ever, and I bessech you for your most ferverent prayers. I've been praying since I heard she was ill about three o'clock this afternoon (when I had to go to a meeting), and when I got home at five, I had a message that they had taken her to the ER. Long story short, I can't go down there to sit because Trish says there are a ton of sick people, and I can't take antibiotics because of allergic reactions. So, I'm here, she's there. She does have another friend with her, and her daughter (who just got married) is on the way. I am thinking of just going down in my car and sitting outside in the parking lot till they get her in a room. I'm down in Central Florida and my hubby is in NE Florida. But please, PLEASE pray for her and the family.

Thanks SO much!

Love you...

Sheila :-)

Dot,
I think most all of us with children have went through ups and downs with them and most of us are fortunate to have children that come around to understand God, family, love and respect. With all that we have endured with our girls (yes...girls) I couldn't be more proud at how they have turned out.

You, dear Dot, and me, we are lucky and loved parents. Plus we got some good hubby's out of the deal too.

My brothers would do anything for me, as you can see by my posts! LOL! BTW, Bud came today and got down on the floor and started scraping grout! Yup he did! Such a sweetie! the floor should be finished and clean by the weekend. Then comes painting YUK, will I ever get outside and enjoy spring? I'd love to if my yard looked like yours!
