Painted Shutters & Comfort Food.....

Can you believe this is Wednesday already...actually it is so late it is almost Thursday! This year is just flying by! Ok Monday I was painting the shutters my new found green!!!!
The sunshine has been beautiful this week with afternoon showers....

Everything is just green and lush.....

There is the little bench that little Sofie loves to sit on and wait for her mama to go turn around at the end of the street and come back and get her....she says she is waiting on the 'school bus'!

We planted everything in this yard 8 years ago and it had the big fancy round columns on the porch when we bought it...but I knew those would be the first thing to go...I LOVE RAILS!
Here is my black shutters Bill made for me a couple of years ago out of some scrap boards that was in the trash...I gave him the design I wanted and he cut them and I painted them...He made baby girl a set also.. ohhhhh lookie here...a green pillow...
Ohhhhh another green pillow...burlap no less!!!! I made these last night around 10:00! lol I found the burlap at Hobby Lobby & I couldn't believe it was the same color as my new paint...Ohhhhhh glory I am loving this new look on the front porch....Bill washed down the porch and all the rails and they looked like new....

I gotta get some more things for the tables and I planted new little begonias in the window box...but just having the softer cottage look is working for me out here.
Bill was outside trimming the jasmines on the arbors so I stayed in and cooked us alittle comfort food...I set the table up....can you believe these are the same flowers that Jen got me May 24th? I set up the little black tray again...that little sweet napkin holder is my favorite one...I got her at a thrift store years ago for $2...she is holding our highly sought after Brawny paper towels! lol lol
Now y'all know I am country right? I mean I love good old fashion country food...I am not a five course fancy smancy type of gal...weeeellllll I have been wanting some cabbage w/carrots & little new red potatoes for a few weeks now...
So I just whipped up a big pot of them with some cornbread....ohhhhhh glory....
Pretend this is a scratch and sniff....come closer and you just might can smell the ham hocks....

I fixed each of us a plate with some sweet tea and used my old goblets like my grandmother always used...it was just the best dinner (our noon meals are called dinner...the night meals are supper) I told Bill I just couldn't be happier...I was so happy I even washed up all the dishes and pots and pans in the sink...just so I could enjoy the sweet memories of washing dishes at my grandmothers when I was a young girl..there was never paper plates or cups used in those days!
Then I packed up a big bowl of everything and some cornbread and we went to mama & daddy's for a visit....they love this dish as well as we do....daddy called me on the road just to tell me again how much he enjoyed it! lol

Tonight for supper Bill wanted another one of these turkey sandwiches ( is this man spoilt or what!) So I gladly fixed him one and for dessert Just a simple lemon creme pound cake from the bakery topped with sliced peaches....

It was a great day....hope yours was just as wonderful...Oh by the way...this is our newest little addition to the kitchen...tell you about it later.....lol lol Love you guys!

Love the new color for the shutters...it looks great. We have had rain everyday, which is unusual for us. Everything is green and lush but it so needs trimmed and sprayed for weeds but the rain keeps coming. LOL Your kitchen is a dream. Dianntha

Hi there! It has been a bit since I visited last. I will have to back up a few posts to see what you have been up to. Love that porch and the meal looks yuumy. Great idea for dessert! I will have to try that one. I have a question for you.

I have been wondering what has happened to Carolyn at Cranberry Crossings. I noticed that her blog posts have been deleted but her blogsite is still up. I hope she is okay. I know there were some family issues going on and wonder if she had to delete everything because of that. Not knowing how she is doing is somewhat worrisome. I saw that you are one of her followers. Do you know anything and whether she is okay?

I keep looking at your porch and think I need to make a change. We also have a lite grey siding on the outside of our house and I am loving that green, did you already say what color it is? Hope you dont mind if i borrow the color. What a perfect early summer day you had, it felt like late fall up here, cold, rainy, windy. I started to wonder if i had just woken up from a 5 month hibernation, lol. Have a great day! I am off to work. Sue

That color of green is my absolute favorite all time color!!!
You porch is so welcoming...I'll be over for some sweet tea and cookies! I will bring the cookies!
What kind of bread do you make Bill's sandwiches with? It looks thick and longer than the loaves that I get.
And I wanted to thank you for sending me the kitchen cabinet pics.
My fireman saw them and he said that your kitchen looks amazing!!
He actually used that word!
I am going to do mine. They are all antiqued cream, so I will just paint the bottom ones this time!
I will definately post pics when I get around to doing this.
Thank you for the inspiration!!

Dot, Do you realize how much I enjoy visiting your own special Picketville? A beauty of a place so lush and green!
Your home is always so welcoming, the company entertaining and the feeling peaceful.
Loved your new burlap pillows which go perfectly on your pretty furniture and match your beautiful newly painted shutters which are the shutters that Bill built!
The flowers are still so pretty, the food looked so good and I can imagine your Mama and Dad loved every bite.
Sophie is so lucky to have you both so close by and even have her own (Bus) bench to sit on.
Your whole family are so blessed to have such a wonderful wife, mom grandma, daughter, sister and even great grandma and cook and homemaker.
I too hope you are feeling well!

Many hugs,
Beth~♥

Dot, I can't tell you how badly I wish I could be sitting on that glorious porch with you. You'd be drinking sweet tea, me some strong coffee, and I think I could just sit for hours, listening to you tell me stories of your family. I never get bored of hearing your stories, both past and present. What a full and rich life you have!
And yum, but that cabbage looks good!

I remember you did say you got the paint for a great deal, I will have to stop at Home Depot and check out some colors. Thanks for stopping by. Our brick walk was kind of an accident, my husband was helping his little brother move into a new home and at the old home where these pavers just in a pile, well..... the hubs snatched them up and there was plenty to do that walk plus a small wall, all for the price of a little sand!! Gotta love that!! LOL Thanks so much for stopping by, I was inspired by your house and started working on my front porch today, painting a few things, cleaning others, pitching this and that, just need a few more flowers and to make a few more pillows. i will keep you posted! Enjoy your weekend, hope it is a great one! Sue

You know, I thought the black shutters looked nice and they went great with the cushions, but my word, how fantastic that soft green looks! And its also great with your cushions! It really freshens up the look of your porch and achieves that softer look you wanted.

It was also fun to see food on your brand new dishes!
