I moved the little black jelly cabinet back into the dining room and moved the white cottagey table into the foyer...School starts back in just a couple of weeks and I always get a hankering for Fall once school starts back....I know I'm weird like that!
So I start doing a deep cleaning and moving all the furniture and dusting and vacuuming and washing all the treasures up...I love it!!!! I know I have alot of stuff and when I was on RMS alot of folks told me to get rid of all the 'clutter'...said that less was more...welllllll.....I did cull alot of things and gave carloads to the kids..but you know what I found out here at my house...
Less ain't more....less is just plain empty and naked! People said oh Picket your kitchen is so small all that stuff will just make it look smaller..wellll once all the stuff was out and off the counters and walls it looked like a tiny box!!!!! So I said to myself.."Picket"..who lives here?..I answered myself.."I do!" So I said to myself.."Picket"...what's important to you? I answered myself and said "being surrounded by family and things that remind me of them and makes me smile when I see it"....and do you know what myslef said to me...'Then get yourself out to the shed and unpack those treasures and get this house Picketified again!!!!"
So that's exactly what I did..even bought more treasures and I have lived happily ever since...moral of the story..if less is more for you...then strip the walls....but if clutter makes you smile...then pack it on....we only live once...your house is your haven...you can't control things outside the door but you can control the atmosphere that you surround yourself with...don't just live in a house...sleep eat and work and just exist in a house...live life in a house...love in a house...speak peace and encouragement in a house...nurture a house....fill the walls with laughter and memories...keep it clean and welcoming and it will forever reward you with open arms always waiting for you to surround you with love and contentment...your home...your haven...your special place where you keep all your treasures of your heart open for the family and world to share alittle of...home is not just a 4 letter word...it is a gift and blessed are those that cherish it...
Mama & daddy came down today and I fixed dinner and youngest Burly & his family came by...baby girl Jen and her family came over and it was just the best day...I love my family and I feel so blessed to have them and I thank God everyday for allowing me to know such love as I have been given from all these beautiful souls...Hope you guys are having a great weekend and enjoying the Summer...take care and always remember give flowers (love...kindness..etc)to those you love while they are still with you..don't wait till they are in the grave...they can't see the flowers then.....Picket

42 lil sweet taters came by...:
well stated...love your home and all those prims! Looks so cozy!I agree~do what you love!!
patti :)
Sweet Picket you are so right! We live in our houses and we should enjoy them as well as those that are special in our lives.
If we like stuff, then by golly, we should have our stuff where we can enjoy it.
Your house looks so comfy and cozy to me. It has a very welcoming look and I for one love it.
I just love your pretty and cozy home!! I have a favor to ask. Could you please tell your sister Terri, "Hello," from me, Kathi at feathering my nest? I'd appreciate it greatly. She was one of the first blogging buddies of mine, and we've lost contact. Thank you. Kathi
Oh, I am with you Picket. Pile it on. I love stuff and I love to see it and feel it and enjoy it. I believe God has blessed me with "stuff". So I like to enjoy my great blessings from Him. Thanks for the beautiful post. Hugs to you, Karie
You go girl. Your home is beautiful and YOURS. You do what you want. I too am with you on fall. As soon as the back to school season is in full swing, I'm ready to drag out all of my fall decorations. Mom and I were talking just the other day about decorating! :) Glad you have had a great weekend!
Love this post. I agree 100% your home is our haven, do what you love. Have only the things around you that you love and that includes people. That is my motto!Have a great week.
betty
Hi Dot,I have so been missing your posting. Will be glad when summer gives way to fall and hopefully time slows down for us all. I love your home and I agree, we can surround ourselves with what we love and want in our own homes. I get a warm and cozy feeling just looking at your pictures. I can feel the love thru blogland. Just did a post on my new plate rack, stop by and check it out. Folks at church today thought I was crazy and I dare say not one would have it in their home, but its my house and right now, today, I love it. Have a great week
Until next time,
Angela
I love your home. I have been away from blogging for a while and when I started back I looked for several days to find your blog. I love all your post and seeing your beautiful home. I followed you on RMS. I agree less isn't always more. I am ready to start thinking about fall myself. Glad I found you.
Exactly so! I don't know why we must live to what others dictate to us. Your home is cozy and welcoming. It is NOT cluttered. Everything there has a purpose and is purposely placed. It's beautiful! Well done, Picket!
AMEN,AMEN AND AMEN!!!Nobody could have explained what a home is better!
You are right on target, Picket..more is more! I have fought to keep my clutter down but I have given up. I love to be surrounded by my favorite thing. Every time I come to your blog, I study the pictures as you have so many cute and pretty things to look at! Don't change!
I'm so happy that you had a wonderful Sunday and posted about it!
XO,
Jane
Well honey,
I'm with you!! It's our home, our castle, and by hokie, we can decorate it any way we wish! Your home is lovely, warm , welcoming and a loving home for your family. What else could you ask for!
Blessings on you and the Burly Bunch!
Kathy
This is where you're so like me. I like having the stuff around to remind me of those I love, especially when they've given it to me. RMS used to drive me crazy that way and I think you're the first one I ever knew who they let alone about it! Maybe bz your home is so cozy, warm, and inviting. I know I'll never move my chicken from my kitchen table. I've made new table runners and toppers to go under him and his little chickies but they're still at the quilters. One of my dear friends gave him to me and I cherish him (bet you can guess who!).
Anyway, love the house and all it entails and means. Family is everything. I often wonder though how your "community family" is doing and recovering after the tornado. My prayers keep going out to them. Have a great evening my friend and thanks again for sharing your love, faith, and home with us tonight.
HI Picket! You've been so busy! I've always loved your style of decorating and love seeing all of your pretties!
Look at your blog! You got the tabs up! Yay!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Picket, I agree with you totally. I have a lot of "clutter" and am always told by my family that it needs to go. I love it because it has a lot of memories of the past and present. Your home is beautiful! Love reading your posts. Always check it almost everyday. Caroleen
I love your home and hopefully am slowly making my own version of it!! :) I love coming here and hearing about your love of home and family. It is inspiring and refreshing. Have a great week.
I love your home Picket. I agree with you so much. My husband are kinda having these conversations right now because he thinks I need to downsize. I just can't get rid of my things...because each has a memory. I don't keep it if it doesn't touch my heart. Your home is so warm and shows love...I certainly do not agree with less is more. I just don't like it.
Hi Picket, You stick to your guns and do what feels right for you. Love your home...looks so cozy and welcoming. Doesn't look cluttered to me. Everything has a purpose.
Glad you had a grand day with your family.
Lois
Oh, I love those kind of days! I tell ya, Picket, your home is gorgeous and you can put things together like NO OTHER. I would love to have you at my house just for one day! :0) Just be you--and between you and me? I detest sterile homes that don't look comfy and lived in! Yours just oozes LOVE!
XOXO
Joni
I agree too. I hate these shows that talk about "well when you want to sell it.....blah blah". I am thinking....well in the meantime, aren't you living there? Why would people decorate for potential buyers when you might not sell your house for YEARS if ever? I think that is CRAZY!! I say live in it and love your stuff. You said it perfectly! Lori L
Well said. After many years of trying to do what other people did/liked, I decided on what I love and that is what I do. If my hubby and I like it, so be it.
You have a lovely home and your sincerity and warmth comes through in everything you write.
And I love every bit of it, Dot!!:-)
Hey there Miss Picket!
Well said is right! I have been berating myself on this, I AM trying to downsize a tad, but it's not my style! LOL! I must be hopeless that way, but we do spend most of our time here at home, so it has to be the haven. Still working on that part!
Hugs,
Renee
Home is truly where the heart is, Dot ... and it sounds as if your lovely home ... and your heart ... are overflowing with blessings and love and family. Thank you for sharing them with us in this sweet post.
Amen sister!...well said!...and thank you for sayin' it!
Janet
I always love seeing pictures of all of your treasures and I love how inviting everything always looks. I think you decorate just right, with tons of love and treasures. That makes it all perfect. I hope you got my email about yours going into the "junk" file. Windows drives me nuts. Your pages are perfect. So glad you got them up. Hugs, Marty
Heeheehee...picket, hello from your 'more is more and less is....well....boring' friend from Illinois!!! 'Stuff' tells a story, tells the people who you are...love your style, always have, always will.....Did I tell you we are moving?? To Iowa??? Well, we're trying to....houses aren't exactly selling and I have had to pack up MY stuff to appease the potential buyers. And to me, an empty room looks three times as small as a filled room....I agree with you on that! Stay cool and happy almost fall! Rosie
Hey Dot! LOL! Loved your post! I used to pile it on, but when I finally reached my limit, I went to a less is more approach. Most people walk in and wonder if I know what "less" means! I still have lots of things I love displayed and out for all to see. It pleases us, so that's what matters. Our home is tidy & clean and comfortable and welcoming.
So glad that your parents are doing so well, along with the rest of your family. Family IS everything!
Have a great week & know how your posts always bless those who read them.
~Carolyn
Oh how I loved this post! I could not agree more about the clutter and less is NOT more. Pooey on those that don't get we have to have our goodies out so we can enjoy them always. I had a "relative" walk in once and the first thing she said, "Gee Jill, think you have any wall space left to hang anything else?" That comment and the tone of her voice never got her an invite back to my home. I adore your home and it belongs in a magazine!!!!
Hi Dot! I'm so glad you put all your treasures back, who are those RMS'ers anyway?? Remember the woman who called my bathroom a urinal, and the women who said get the microwave and toaster off the countertop?? Oh well, that was a long time ago and my kitchen has changed quite a bit but the appliances are still on the countertop! LOL
I did alot of tweaking and cleaning this past weekend too. It does the heart good doesn't it!?
I'm looking forward to Fall! I have pumpkins growing on the big vine too! I need to shop for a new camera so once I get it I'll send pictures. Have a great week sis, love ya! oxoxo
What a great post Picket! I remember the old rms days. Didn't we learn a lot??? I think we learned that WE decide what's "in" when decorating our homes! We learned to surround ourselves with people and things we love. And after trying different styles, decided that our own style was JUST FINE THE WAY IT WAS. I am so grateful for the friends made, and the really good times we had while posting our rooms for the world to see. I have always loved your home, your style, and will be the first one to tune in to "Picket's Place" as soon as you get your own show! Thanks for all your wonderful posts, you are something special.
Your home is beautiful and has always inspired me! Home is supposed to be comfortable to us and make us feel good.I have to say when I see pics of your home that they always bring a smile to my face.God bless you,Jen
Picketfied? Lol, I say it every time I am here, and will say it again, I love stopping by here and visiting. I feel like I am actually inside your home when I stop by your blog.
I have toned everything down in my house, taken all of the clutter away for the summer so that it would be open and airy. Come fall, I will drag everything back out and I am gonna call it "Picketfy" everything to cozy up for the winter months. I love cozy in the fall and winter! And, I love your house all Picketfied. It looks sooo cozy and welcoming in there.
Love your attitude Dot. I cannot do minimal either. I have too many collections I am adding to all the time. Your kitchen personifies you and that is what matters:-)
Good for you...I believe in surrounding myself with things I love.
You go girl!
I love your warm and welcoming decor. I figure whenever I sell my house and pack stuff up to depersonalize it for show----I'll be half packed! LOL.
Hi Dot, I've gotten behind on reading my blog posts. You have been a busy girl and I love what you have been up to. I really love what you have done to your bathroom. As always, your home looks like it should be in a magazine. But more than that it shows the love that lives in your home. Your family is blessed to have you Dot, you are a very special lady and I am so happy to have you as a "blogland friend". Have a great week my friend, see you on the farm. Bette Jo
Oh Pickett, you make we want to get out the broom, mop and Pledge and that takes us big inspiration. I love your home.....I can tell from this far away that it is You....warm and cozy.
Good for you, keep talking.
I just love, love, love visiting your blog. It's just like being invited into your home and your life. Makes me wish we were blood related! :-) You are always so very joyful, so full of love for your family and friends. That joy rubs off on me and reminds me of how truly blessed I am to have such a great family and comfy home. Thanks from the bottom of my heart. Blessings, Deanna B.
I love your home, Picket. More is more is definitely for me too....Christine
A MEN!!!!! I so agree with you!!! We only go around ONCE so surround yourself with what you LOVE: people and treasures!!!!! I just adore your kitchen/breakfast area! It always looks WONDERFUL! I just wish I lived close to you so I could come sit at your table and chat all morning with you!!!! Have a great week, Dot. XO, Pinky
I love your home, Picket! It just has such a warm, relaxing feeling! I'm hoping one day that mine gets to that!
