You see as far back as I can remember....school would start the Tuesday after Labor Day in SEPTEMBER!!!! That always triggered something in me...you'd have to dress the kids in a sweater to catch the bus and by afternoon they'd be ready for shorts...nights would be so cool and you'd feel Fall in the air each morning....soooo now schools start in early AUGUST!!!...
But you see I am like one of those migrating geese you see flying over in the Fall...when school starts back...no matter what the calendar says...my body goes into Fall mode....come on now...raise your hand..I am not the only broom in this closet!
I love the changes though...makes me think of all the holidays coming up and all the recipes from days gone by...seeing all the kids grow each year and watching as your grown kids turn another chapter in their book of life...I love this life! How about y'all...anyone else out there changing things out around the house? Oh I also been doing little projects...got some old tins from daughter-in-law..they were solid black so I sanded alittle to show some detail and just hot glued an old doily on it....ohhhhh so sweet!!!! I know...I know.. it don't take much to make me happy...better get back to cleaning...you hear that???? Exactly.....nothing...not a sound....not a door opening...the fridge may shut down from shock...it hasn't been opened in over an hour....yep...house all to my self....SCHOOL HAS STARTED!!!! PRAISE THE LORD....HALLELUJAH...THANK YOU JESUS....AMEN!!!!! Oh sorry grandkids...Maw Maw was just joking..(yahoo!)
Have a great week you guys....Picket

24 lil sweet taters came by...:
I too think of Fall when school starts, and school starts last week of August up here, and I get the hankering to cozy up my lil home!! Glad to hear life is good my sweet picket!! Love ya!!~hugs~
I like your changes Dot. I have started changing things over to Fall.
The past couple of days we have had absolutely gorgeous pre-fall days with sunshine and temps in 70's. The smell of fall is around too and the light has begun to change...love that soft autumn light. We ran errands today in the truck, with the windows down...heaven!
Here in East Texas it starts the last of August. This year(after losing my job 2 yrs. ago in Adm. Office) I will be driving a school bus. No air 150 degrees inside bus!!!! I am keeping the cool whites out till LOTS cooler weather!! That may be in Dec. :-o
Hey Dot! School starts here on Monday. I love fall and look for ANY excuse to leave summer behind! It sure has been brutal this year, hasn't it?
~Carolyn
Picket you brought back so many memories..like school shopping..it was all fall/warm type stuff and it was still very hot in Utah and we would wear that new warm outfit to school..only to sweat our butts off and go right back to wearing summer clothing till we actually needed it..I do love the way the sun is hitting the house this month..has a fall feel about it..I love it and love September and october..haven't put out any fall stuff yet..will the end of September though..can't wait I love to decorate for fall/halloween..Love the tin..simple and prim..) have a wonderful rest of your week.;)
My grandkids start back to school on the 29th...can't wait to "start Fall" as well. Yours is looking beautiful, Dot, as usual. Enjoy that peace and quiet while you can but, get those snacks ready for when the fun begins again After School...LOL!!!
Lynne ♥♥
Dot -- I am pretty sure Fall is the official season of bloggers, lol! I try to hold out until after Labor Day, but we've had some cooler days (80's instead of 100's) and I am feeling the autumnal pull :)
Blessings!
Gail
Dot you crack me up!! I always did love the first day of school and the house to myself too!! Amelia will be in preschool 2 half days in the week, Mom is here every day of course, so is Butch....so my alone time is no more, but that's ok! Our kids start school the day after Labor Day, I think. I haven't done any changing around, I do that the first week of September and it's fast approaching!
Today is the first day the AC has been turned off in months, it feels pretty nice out. We're going to the fair tonight with Kim and Amelia, gonna see all the farm animals, pig scramble, tractor pull, horsey rides, and fireworks to end the evening!
Talk to ya soon sis, love ya! xoxo
I can't believe some people are changing to fall decor already! Our schools don't start until the Tuesday after Labor Day - the old fashioned way! LOL And I try to hang on to summer as long as I can here as it's so short and it's not really been the best summery weather lately. I love how you described the fall feeling though. I do get that feeling too but not until September. I like your new header photo. Great post! Blessings, Pamela
HI Dot! I know how you feel but I am hanging on to summer for awhile. I LOOOOVE to decorate for Fall, probably my favorite season now. Can't wait to pull it all put and that will be soon! I LOVE the new look of your blog! Wish I knew how to do that:):) Love what you did with the tin! CUTE!!!! Enjoy your Fall. Our weather just got SO nice, low 80's. THAT is perfect to me! But I ahve to admit, I am looking forward to Fall clothes etc. XOXO, Pinky
LOL...yep, I hear ya!!! My little grandson that I watch, went back to preschool today too. I got home, and skipped down the hallway, clicking my heels. Not too excited now Gamma!!!!!
Oh I do adore my little grands, but this Gamma needs a little break now and again too! Yee-Haw!!!
LOL funny grandma! ;D We just now have summer..but I know Fall is coming, I was in the mountains this morning and was so amazed to find some Fall colors!
Even as hot as it is, I bought Halloween decorations at Hobby Lobby yesterday-I am already planning.!
Hooray for the coming of fall. Cool breezes, windows open, pumpkins out in the yard, spice candles, leaves changing colors, the smell of cooking sugar cane in the air, fall festivals and craft shows...I love it all.
I think Fall starts after Labor Day. I still remember the smells in the air with my new school bag and plaid dress as I walked to school. But here, they start back the first week of August. Doesn't make a lick of sense to me, but then, no one listens to me anyways!!
I like your changes...but then again, I like your style!!
I'm loving the fact that for the first time in FOREVER I don't have to go shopping for school clothes. We still have about two weeks before school starts though and then the University right after. My baby is going to the university but I'm really okay with that. She's grown up so much lately and I'm so happy for this new path life is taking her down.
I love fall but I'm not ready to bring the stuff out just yet. We seem to be behind you in seasons and we're still in full summer mode. It's been a mild summer for us though so I'm grateful for that.
I'm so glad you posted bz I've missed you Picket! Did you read my post about what was wrong with our car? If you key ever sticks just remember to come to me and I'll tell you how to fix it!
Your look is beautiful. I can't even think about fall until all this canning is done but I do see it coming just beyond the horizon. I am starting on muscadines now and that is the end.
I hope you have a great weekend!!!
Hi Dot, after reading your post and seeing that you have begun decorating for fall I have pulled some of my greens and added some wheat. I want to put up my fall stuff and I think slowly I will! The fall weather we have been getting here in Canada scares me b/c I have heard that September is going to be hot and humid again :( YUCK I hate that weather. My flowers are slowly getting pulled out little by little as I am tired of watering them and they are over grown and just don't look so nice anymore. My kids start back to school on the 6th of September but I always do my decorating the week before!!! I love fall it's my favorite time of year!
Have a great week!
Lynnly
Good Morning Picket! I had pulled out a couple things from my fall bucket( Thank God for rubbermaid)and feel ready for the change even though it is still warm here too. I thought of you yesterday, I did a little shopping and went to lunch with Linda from Behind my Red Door and we talked about our RMS days. Love Linda to pieces. We met through RMS and she is about an hour away, but we try to steal a little time here and there.....anyway you were on my mind. Wish you could have joined us, but then again we would have most likely laughed way to much! I miss Rue too!
Big hugs coming your way!
Donna
After a very hot and humid early August here in Michigan, we've had a break in the weather and it's only been in the 70's this week. Of course it's got me itching to bring out the fall decor! I know your blog is one of my first stops when I need a little inspiration!
Love it!
~cathy
Oh, I know you gals love your autumns! Autumn for me is melancholy because I know old man winter is around the corner. You see, summer is my favorite season and once autumn is here, she is as far away as ever and snow is on the horizon. I think I need to move to Florida!
I do get involved in the excitement of the new school year. Around here we are starting the last week of August for the first time in years. We normally start after labor day.
My daughter's favorite holiday is Halloween so she will be decorating up a storm. I'll have to pull out the many boxes I store for her. I have been collecting some fall things for tablescapes so I'll join in the decorating, too, but it won't be before September. :) My summer will fun to the end!
Dot, thanks for sharing! Love your posts.
Not me, I am not ready to give up my flip flops yet! As far as I am concerned, it is Summer until the leaves start to fall.
School does not start here until after Labor Day, and I am drinking in all that summer sunshine as much as I can!
Oooh Mrs. Picket, I thought of fall, and I automatically came here to see what you were up to. See, fall is my favorite season, even tho we don't have much of one here in Misssissippi. Yes, I start cozy-ing things up in the fall, and cooking. Matter of fact, I am about to make pumpkin rolls right now. Wish you were close enough to stop by for a piece of one and some coffee.
NOPE, no fall going on at Sweet Nothings. I will keep summer whites out and then, I'll bring out my winter whites...It's still way too hot here to even think of changing ANYthing. We stay hot out here thru September...ooo, I am so done with summer I could spit. Been a terrible summer..so hot, drought, dead grass, not a flower one, all summer long. Pitiful.
Winter is my fav. season of all and I am so looking forward to fires in the fireplace, hot chocolate, warm throws, good books...*heavy sigh...:)
Have a great day.
