Checking In....

Hey guys...gosh it has been so long...I miss my blog time! Sometimes I think the older I get the faster the clock turns...all last week I was so drained..I just had no energy..it was all I could do just to putter around in the house and keep it maintained..come to find out my blood pressure had dropped to 90/56...I called the doctor and he said to cut my blood pressure medicine in half..if I continue to lose weight I will no longer need it...yahoo! But I have lost 60lbs and that number is sticking to those scales like a girdle on a fat lady! It won't budge lately..but I am determined to get this off...
Been slowly making different vignettes for Fall...love the old shadow box with my little Hulls pitcher and old utensils...also added my check napkins to the cabinets...love the bigger print in there...if I ever put 'curtains' in the cabinets again I think I will make some burlap ones...yesterday was such a fantastic day...went to visit mama & daddy....stopped by Publix and got a bucket of their fried chicken from the deli....cost of the chicken...$8.25...the amount of joy it gave me to spend time with them....there are no words...the fact that I am blessed to still have both of them...priceless...

Now y'all should know now what a pair of characters my parents are...you never know what will come out of their mouths....just a few weeks ago they were down and we were all in the living room...me.mama & Jen were just talking away and laughing...now daddy is alittle hard of hearing..so he yelled out"speak up I can't understand what y'all are saying"...Mama calmly turns to him and yells 'we're using code words...you're not suppose to understand!"So yesterday daddy opens the door and I nearly faint..."Uh daddy...did you lose your razor?" He rolls his eyes at mama and winks..."she likes me this way!" Oh my word!!!! Remember last year when daddy was in the hospital and I was staying with mama cause she had fell...daddy had called and was saying he needed to shave before he came home and mama said no...I like Mountain men...and daddy said when were you ever with a Mountain man and mama answered 'I can dream can't I" ...lol

So anyway we have our lunch and talk and laugh and after a few hours we decide to go on a road trip to Youngest Burly's house up at the lake...usually mama doesn't like to travel but to our surprise she jumps up and says 'Ok... let me go put on a depends!' At that moment I needed a depends cause I bout fell off my chair laughing....ahhhh senior moments..gotta love em...

Oh a different note...last Friday my sister's little 80 something yr old neighbor passed away...the day before she had told her family that she had had a vision...God had came to her and showed her all of her life from the day she was born until that moment....He told her He was there in the beginning and all the the middle and that He would be there with her in the end...That day she told her 91 yr old husband that she was alittle chilly so he went and got her a blanket and she was gonna take a nap in the recliner...she was not sick...no disease...nothing....she closed her eyes and went on to be with the Lord....we all should be so blessed when our time comes...but one thing her precious husband said has just stayed on my mind all week...he was crying and so heartbroken and he looked at his son and said "she's gone...but we hadn't finished talking"

I wonder how many of us will think those same thoughts when our loved ones pass on...will we have told them how much we love them...how blessed we are to have them in our lives...will we truly ever 'have finished talking to them"...give your love while it is still yours to give...Jesus told the story of love...you can have love FOR someone all day but until you have love ONE TO ANOTHER it benefits nothing...in other words...you could be hungry...I could have $100 in my pocket for you..it's yours...no other purpose...but until I actually GIVE you that $100 it profits you nothing. Have a great week you guys..enjoy the last days of Summer...love ya....Picket

Good to hear from you! Your parents sound hilarious! I love to hear about older folks and their fun together. My grandparents..lived to 87 and 92...they loved each other so much...died 3 weeks of each other. Love your vignettes you have been working on. But they are always good!!

I have missed you Dot! What a sweet post. Those words will stay with me too, that the elderly gent said after his wife had passed. So hard! Your folks sound like riots!!! ENJOY!! I have lost my dear Daddy, and I miss him so. My Mom is with us, she is young, only 20 yrs older than me. I am 51. Her Mama, my Nana, just turned 97 and she has been feeling poorly these past few days. I know our days are numbered with her. I will miss my sweet Sweet Southern Nana...and can hardly bear to think about her leaving us.
Have a great day Dot!

I love the story of the 90-year-old man who hadn't finished talking to his wife yet. Priceless for sure.

Take care good friend and I'll talk to you soon.

Me
P.S. Your mama and daddy give me quite a chuckle too. Enjoy them while you have them. Mine have both been gone many years now, mom 16 years next month and dad 10 years last February.

Wow! 60 pounds, that's awesome! Congratulations! What a wonderful, touching post!
I lost my dad 12 yrs. ago. He passed away 8 months after I lost my husband. My mom is in a nursing home. I have been a c.n.a for 20+ yrs. I work at a nursing home in the Dementia unit. It is a very stressful job but I Love being with the elderly. The things they say give ya a chuckle. But I Love listening to the stories they tell from long ago. You are very lucky to have both your parents. Cherish those moments. Have a wonderful week. Take Care

Oh I need a tissue visiting here... Thank you for the sweet stories and your parents are a delight and you are a great blessing to them, too. I'm glad that you told about your bp meds because now that I'm trying to take some weight off, I'll have to be on the look-out for that particular feeling. I should probably be monitoring my bp better. Until next time!

Oh my, "congratulations" 60 lbs why we won't be able to recognize ya.

I have worked with elders nearly all my life... most of them are a hoot!

You are fortunate to have both of them and such a close relationship, what a blessing.

I'm still trying to catch up for lost time, this summer has gone so fast, I feel as if I have slept through it.

I cannot tell you how much I love visiting your blog, you have such a way with words, another blessing.

Have a great Labor day Weekend!

Congrats to you on your weight loss.
I too was away from my blog for awhile. A totally different reason. I live out in the country and I am limited by satellite. I had to take a break to keep the bandwidth down. Your family is wonderful. Thanks for sharing your stories. Enjoy every minute.
