Things That Make Me Smile....

Morning guys...well here we are in 2012...how blessed we are to live to see such a time! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year's...Ours was the best so far....we all gathered at Jen's next door...ohhhh the food was fantastic and all the babies with all their toys running to you to show you their newest treasures...as the evening went on Mama & Daddy headed on back home and I told the gang I was gonna head back across the yard to the house to put my feet up for a minute...well it wouldn't no time til they all came across and begin to huddle in the living room with me and even sitting around on the floor..then begin the best part of the day...they all talked about their childhood and the memories they had...talked about love and family...we all cried and laughed for hours...that was the greatest Christmas ever for me...
Finally got all the Christmas decorations put away and got ready for New Year's dinner here at the house...been cleaning and culling out the closets and cabinets all week...I decided I wanted toile in as many rooms as I could put it...I love toile and checks and I believe in living with what you love...these in the dining room came from LOWES...of all places! lol Love the large farm scene on them...

As I was cleaning out things I would ask myself if I saw this item in a store today would I buy it? Nine times out of ten the answer was no...so it went in the give away box...you know how you keep stuff just to use as a fill in...well I am not doing that anymore...I have had some stuff for years but if I haven't used it in a year then I won't miss it...the next pic is the guest bedroom..I loooove this toile set...bought it a couple of years ago at JC Penneys...notice how I seem to be drawn to the black toile!!!! lol

I plan on working on losing some more weight...spending as much time as possible with my family...change the things I can and pray about the ones I can't...in my home if I can only change one thing it will be something that makes me smile when I walk in and see it and toile does that for me....what makes you smile...what dreams do you have for the New Year....whatever they are remember this is a new begining for all of us...let this be the year that we finally let go of all the past hurts that have haunted us for so long...forgive those that have hurt us...let them live with that wrong doing...you survived it..that's all that matters...love covers a multitude of sin and forgiveness can cause a person to see a light that darkness had kept covered fo so long...

I want to thank sweet Vee @ A Haven for Vee for mentioning me in her blog and for all the wonderful viewers that came over here from her blog to say hello...you guys are just the best....have a great day everybody and remember to do something to make yourself smile today...love ya...Picket

I love your words of wisdom. It really is all about the little things that make us smile and I like your positive spin. When I wrote about this topic some while ago, I approached it from the other side...what is annoying the daylights out of you? I rather like "what makes you smile?"

Also like how you're deciding to part with things...would I buy this today? Excellent. I'm going to try that, but it's scary because I might have nothing left. =D

Now only your family would have the "best evening ever" sitting around crying over old memories. LOL! I love it; I do. It sounds like my favorite kind of evening, but my kids, unlike your kids, would tease me as I have teased you.

Have a bright and beautiful New Year!

Hi Picket!...Happy New Year!...I'm happy for you that you had such a wonderful Christmas, that would be something to remember for sure to have the kids all sitting around talking about their childhood memories.

I love black toile too...have it in my dining room...used to have sage toile draperies in my family room but recently changed to a more primitive style window treatment in there...but I'm with ya on the toile! LOL

Thank you for the last part of your blog post, about forgiveness...I need to forgive our oldest son and have been having difficulty doing so...the part about surviving it being the most important part is something I am going to really think about.

Thank you again!
Janet

The first thing that made me smile was seeing a post from you in my blog list! Happy New Year, Dot...I am going to try to put some of your sage advice into play...esp. the sending the things I don't love anymore off to live elsewhere. It is my hardest task, so I haven't done it. I hope this time I make it; I will keep you and your words in mind and give it a go...AGAIN!!

Have a beautiful weekend..

This post really touched me, as did the one about your Thanksgiving. All of my children are out on their own now, and I live 35 miles away from my boys, so I cherished every moment I could get with my family this Christmas. Both my sons, my daughter and her husband, and my step-children were here Christmas Eve, all night, then Christmas morning, and all but one managed to get to church with us the next morning too! Such joy! I never know when it will be the last time we can all get together like this, because who knows if they will get married and have other family obligations, or have to work. Even though I was starting to get sick those days, it was such a blessing to have their energy and chaos in my home. I love them so much!

Hi, Dot...thanks for stopping by..always good to hear from ya. :)

I love your curtains in your kitchen and breakfast area. I am about to start on a guest bedroom and have been trying to decide on curtains for the 4 windows in there. Not sure yet, but I do like the little half curtain on the bottom...I like that idea a lot.
\Come back to see me soon. :))
